On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, ջ of Canada (ջ), in partnership with the Regina Campus Student’s Association, had the honor of hosting the Late Tony Cote Welcome Back Traditional Powwow. This cultural gathering took place on the sacred grounds of the ջ Regina Campus, bringing together dancers, drummers, Elders, and community members in a vibrant celebration of traditions, languages, and spirits, warmly welcoming the new academic year.
The event began with a pipe ceremony at 10:00 AM in the ceremonial tipi, and dancer and drum group registration also commenced at 10:00 AM. Grand Entry followed at 12:00 PM, with veterans, Elders, dignitaries, Powwow Royalty, and the Cote family leading the dancers for the afternoon festivities. Highlights included a streetwear special hosted by the Regina Campus Social Committee, a Dinosaur special hosted by the Elders Office, and a 16+ Jingle Dress Special hosted by the University of Regina ٲ-ٲâ Student Centre. Numerous craft vendors showcased their beautiful designs, and food vendors offered delicious food and drinks. The Late Tony Cote Welcome Back Traditional Powwow has always been a testament to the rich traditions and vibrant cultural heritage of Indigenous communities and a way to showcase and honour the late Tony Cote and all his efforts and contributions to ջ.
